Urbino

Urbino lies between the Metauro valley and the Foglia valley, on the rolling hills of the Marche region overlooking the Adriatic Sea.

Urbino is a city of vast historical and artistic wealth: of Roman origin, it developed enormously in the 15th century thanks to Federico da Montefeltro, and from a simple village it became a Duchy, the cradle of the Renaissance and the Ideal City.

Urbino was the birthplace of the great master Raphael: the ducal city was crucial to his education, as it was a major artistic center in the 15th century.

Its historic center has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998.

It is home to one of the oldest and most important universities in Europe, founded in 1506.
